Bijou Funnies #6 Review

NOTE: The version I’m reviewing is the UK Cozmic Comics edition. If there are any differences in content between that and the original U.S. Kitchen Sink Press ones, please feel free to enlighten me.

To quote Pat from Nard N’ Pat, “Bijou Funnies rides again” in their sixth inning with a curated all-star underground comix crew of Jay Lynch, Justin Green, Robert Crumb, and Skip Williamson. This is one where the cover does not disappoint!

Projunior by R. Crumb – It’s a trite statement to make at this point, but it still holds true: Crumb is a craftsman at writing farcical yet easy-to-follow short-form comics. In this case, we follow our title lead, who, after a welfare check cut, decides he’s going to topple the capitalist system by infiltrating it from within and help his girlfriend pay for college. In other words, work for a shoe shop in customer service. Most of the comic’s hilarity comes from seeing Projunior multitasking to chaotic results and kinky implications that pay off in an outrageous final panel.
